A sermon from 1 John 2:1-6
The work of Christ (vv. 1-2)        a. Advocate (1)        b. Propitiation (2)
The walk in Christ (vv. 3-6)        a. Know and obey (3-4)        b. Love and obey (5a)        c. Abide and obey (5b-6)
GOSPEL CONNECTION
John wrote his Gospel for the purpose of justification: “But these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” (John 20:31); and that he wrote 1 John for those with eternal life (the justified) to have assurance of their justification salvation, which is evidenced by fellowship of redeemed people with one another and ultimately with God our Father and Jesus His Son. (1 John 1:3)
APPLICATION
Based on who Jesus is and what He has done for you, how will you walk in the same manner as Jesus walked this week?
MEMORY VERSE
“But whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: 6 The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” (1 John 1:9-10)

Walk in the Light | 1.19.25

Sunday Jan 19, 2025

Sunday Jan 19, 2025

A sermon from 1 John 1:5-10
The perfection of God (vv. 5-6)
The problem of sin (vv. 7-8)
The process of sanctification (vv. 9-10)
GOSPEL CONNECTION
By grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9) our sin is forgiven and our eternity is changed from separation from God, to being a child in the family of God, dwelling eternally with Him. This is our position in Christ, secure and seated in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 2:6). Do not confuse the believer’s position in Christ with the daily fellowship we are to have with God, the reason for John writing this letter.
APPLICATION
What will you do this week to incorporate the confession of sins into your daily walk with your Savior and Lord?
MEMORY VERSE
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (1 John 1:9-10)

Fact Check | 1.12.25

Sunday Jan 12, 2025

Sunday Jan 12, 2025

A sermon from 1 John 1:1-4
What is which?
What does which do for who?
What does who do for you?
GOSPEL CONNECTION
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1, 11-14)
APPLICATION
What specific steps will you take this week to deepen your fellowship with other believers?
MEMORY VERSE
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:1-4)

APPLICATION
How will you remind yourself every day this week of God’s promised future for His people?
MEMORY VERSE
And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:3-4)
